A Few of My Favorite Things

Springtime! (And day number 34,928 of quarantine, but who’s counting?) Even though we’re still mid-isolation, God refuses to let hope die; just cracking the window lets in a symphony of birdsong, bloomy aromas, and a lovely breeze. So rebel against the voice that groans bleakness over the world—vibrancy is bursting out all around us! There are tons of ways to pour Miracle Grow into each aspect of our lives. Here are a few, hand-picked just for you.

Encouragement for Families: Empowered Homes

Oh, friends, if you’ve never heard of this resource, don’t wait! It’s a wellspring of God-glorifying treasures designed for marriage, parenting, and personal growth, with a hefty section dedicated specifically to reigning in the chaos during COVID-19. (I can’t get enough of the Skit Guys in their Bedtime Bible Story series.) Movie-inspired family devotionals, amazing blog posts, timely podcast episodes, and teaching session video clips are just a small sampling of all Empowered Homes has to offer—for free!

Heart Help: Giving Up the Need to Be Noticed by Dallas Willard and Bill Britton

This post is essentially comprised of one paragraph and one set of questions. But, good grief! It’s jam-packed with solid goodness all the way through. In a society that trumpets our own goodness on a minute-by-minute basis, even in the Church, the way of the cross looks a lot like obscurity. My favorite line? “Secrecy rightly practiced enables us to place our public relations department entirely in the hands of God.” Ouch. Trading out #morningBiblestudy tweets for #deathtoself journal entries might be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Conference Fun: LifeWay Women Live Simulcast

For the first time ever, LifeWay is providing a simulcast option for its phenomenal line-up of Word-loving sisters. Beth Moore. Priscilla Shirer. Jackie Hill Perry. Jen Wilkin. Kelly Minter. Angie Smith. Jennifer Rothschild. Kristi McLelland. In your jammies. For $20. Yes, please.

Seasonal Project: Virtual Spring Cleaning

Cobwebs in our social media worlds are easier to forget about (or ignore) than those in our homes. If you love that just-cleaned feeling you get when the final room has been tidied, prepare yourself: this challenge is for you. Work platform by platform, concentrating on tossing out the old/ill-fitting and letting in some fresh air. Filter your news. Curate your Insta feed. Put those Pins to work! If you don’t walk away from spending five minutes on any particular account with an invigorated soul, an overhaul is needed.

Best Scent Combo: BHG’s Sugared Lavender Twist and Island Coconut Lime

Want to be swept away to springtime in the tropics? Look (or smell) no further. While I might not recommend blending both in the same wax warmer, it is absolutely delicious to walk from a room where one is simmering to a different room scented by the other. Walmart usually carries these for super cheap, so stock up and enjoy!
